BUM HANDS & FEET

3 Points of Contact

Fresh from another victory, we caught up with Lisa Davis at the National 25 in the Lake District.
Having had only 7 days to recover from her 12 hour epic ride, Lisa’s attention to comfort on the bike is of paramount importance.

Lisa shared with us some of her top tips on ride comfort.
“Unless you ride like superman, the three points of contact are BUM, HANDS and FEET.”
On long distance endurance rides, being comfortable on the bike can make all the difference between a fun ride and a miserable slog.
As the miles increase these three points of contact can generate discomfort and affect both your performance and pleasure while riding your bike.
To help you ride more comfortably, consider these Tips:

BUM

Saddle – make sure this is a comfortable one on longer rides and not just on your training rides.
Shorts – Tight and snug. Always change out of your shorts as soon as you can on returning to the hotel to mitigate saddle sores. Chamois cream can be helpful for comfort.

HANDS

Good bar tape can make all the difference. If you sweat a lot your hands tend to slip and wearing gloves can help you grip and relax on the bars better.
Move around on the bars regularly – from tops to hoods to drops to change pressure points and avoid wrist ache.

FEET

Shoes – Not brand new. A worn-in shoe is more comfortable, especially if used with quality socks to help keep feet cool.
Well fitted cleats make a huge difference to long day comfort.”

Enjoy…
