This year’s mid-season Altitude Training Camp situated high up in the Estrela Mountains, Portugal was a great success.

Professional Riders, Monica and Chanel from Storey Racing spent ten days training on routes we specially created for them.
The routes not only covered the more famous climbs like Col’ de Zezere, known locally as ‘Glacier Climb’, an HC Category, 13km ascent, but also the lesser known and more remote climbs.
Climbs such as Col’ de Santo Antonio – another HC Category Climb which has an average gradient of 6% but also contains a number of leg burning double figure sections as it ascends 850m in only 13kms.

During their ten days training they were joined by two riders from the Army Cycling Team who were looking for a quiet place to train………..
………Together they rode the switchbacks of Col’ de Manteigas, Col’ de Sabugeiro and the Reservoir and Tunel climbs.

One of their favourite routes though was the picturesque, HC Climb of Col’ de Cabeca to Torres. This stunning, traffic free route ascends from the sleepy village of Vide to the summit of Torres at 2,000m over a 30km route.
It’s a climb of 1,700m, full of switchbacks and sweeping bends clinging to the mountain, and one that passes through remote stone villages where the way of life seems unchanged.

The Training Camp also provided a superb opportunity for Monica and Chanel to familiarise themselves with the routes they will be accompanying riders on during our Pro Climb Portugal Tours in May and September 2020.
These seven day tours will be based in the same excellent hotel situated just below the 2,000m summit of Torres.
The Tours are suited to those that may have already conquered the more famous European Cols and are looking for a new experience whilst riding alongside and learning from expert Pro Cyclists. It’s a tough week (500km and 12,000m accumulated elevation gain) so is not for the faint hearted.

A good level of mountain cycling experience is recommended and we are able to provide comprehensive pre-tour Training Programmes to ensure your fitness is solid to ride multiple, back to back days.
Pro Climb Portugal Tour is also perfect for anyone that is preparing for a multi-day event such as the N2 Challenge or the Trans-Iberian Challenge, as the format and level of difficulty will provide an excellent foundation for such an undertaking.
Typical days include three climbs, 2,000m of elevation gain and are up to 100km in length. The Pro Climb Portugal Tour is a truly thrilling week spent in the safe hands of consummate professionals – a week that will stimulate your senses, challenge your body and enrich your soul.Further details of these tours can be found on our website.
