Our fully supported guided cycling holidays are guided by experienced professional cyclists.
Depending on the cycling holiday you choose, the pro riders will know the routes either from their training, such as on the Pro Climb Portugal, or from riding it with their team mates at the end of the season on the Women’s Grand Tour.
All of our ride leaders and guides have a good knowledge of the local area and are always providing elaboration on the towns, landmarks, castles and vineyards.
The professional cyclists can also help you with aspects of training, fitness, nutrition or just how to ride safely in the group they are guiding. They are always willing to shares their skills and experiences with you. From how to climb better to how to descend faster; they will be on hand with support and encouragement.
We’ll supply you with accurate digital routes which can be uploaded to your device, to help you stay on route. You’ll also receive the company of one of our experienced support riders. They’ll always be found at the back providing company and encouragement.
All our routes have been created with painstaking detail over many years of experience. They frequently stop at cafes, picnic spots, castles and town squares where you can drink in the culture of the region.
From mountains to valleys, from rugged coasts to remote plains, Portugal offers the whole range of cycling landscapes in one country. We ride in the mountains of Serra da Estrela, the rolling plains of Alentejo and the rugged coastline of the Atlantic Ocean.
There are routes for all abilities on some of the quietest, smoothest roads you’ll find anywhere in Europe.
The mountain routes are an oasis of calm when compared to the popular routes of the Pyrenees and the Alps – it’s why many pro cyclists choose to train with us instead of the destinations fequented by the masses of cycling tourists.
One of the first things our customers notice is the quality and smoothness of the road surface. The enhancement this brings to your enjoyment of the ride is why we cycle in this part of Europe. It’s also one of the three cornerstones of any Volta Pro Tour cycling holiday – Smooth tarmac, quiet roads, stunning hotels.
The Portuguese are enthusiastic about their cycling with events being organised on a local and national level throughout the year. Club rides on a Sunday will frequently number in the fifties and will be of mixed ability from 18 year olds to 80 year olds!

But most of all, you’ll find the Portuguese to be enthusiastic and supportive when seeing a group of cyclists – especially those in Team Volta kit!
