There’s a lot you can learn about tour organisation when you are talking to one of the biggest names in international cycling. Especially when he’s also a stage winner in both the Tour de France and La Vuelta. Sean is now Sports Director at Team Tinkoff and I caught up with him at the Volta Algarve earlier this year.
The adventure began on a chance encounter with some former professional riders whilst cycling in Portugal.
The meeting triggered an avalanche of group rides, tours and expeditions with pros and friends as company. Before long we were engrossed in week long adventures. Climbing mountains, exploring wooded valleys and visiting some of the best restaurants and hotels this country has to offer.
I have become totally immersed in Portugal’s cycling culture, the quiet, smooth roads, the breathtaking landscapes, the glorious gastronomy and the unique camaraderie shared between riders.
Now I try to capture these moments in my blogs and share these experiences with other riders by organising Cycling Tours in Portugal.
Maybe, one day, I’ll meet you and we’ll share a few pedal strokes together.
